Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in United Arab Emirates

Hi, I am based in Dubai, UAE I have Credit Cards from different bank,I was managing them all very well before the recession but for last few months (9/10 months) since my company got badly effected by recession and my salary got reduced by 50% I am having problem in paying back my CC bills. but still I am managing to pay them. I accept it gets delayed but not more than one moth, e.g. we are in Sep and I have to pay aug bills, that's what happening for last few months I don't have 3/4/5 months bills pending on my head on any card.

But these collection department people are really harassing & threatening me every time, sending me harassing messages, I feel I will get nerves breakdown because of them, my mental health has really got effected because of them, I have full intention to pay them and I am really paying them but as I have mentioned its just delaying a month because my salary is also delaying and as it got reduced so I have to manage money from other sources to pay them.

I just need to know am I defaulter? or after how many non payments a card holder can be a defaulter? as they says if I will not pay the minimum amount they will present the remaning amount's check and I will have to pay all the outstanding amount at once, the other day one of the collection officer really shouted on me badly and said pay now, now otherwise you will have to pay all the amount, and last month I got a message that collection office is on his way to meet your employer and take the all outstanding payment from you.

can you please tell me on just one month payment delay they can ask us to pay all outstanding amount?

For credit cards same law applies around the world or UAE has separate law. I am really in a very bad condition , though I am paying but I am in a big harassment, if I don't reply they start calling my office. Are they have all rights to Harass us? there's no law for them? I am really getting mentally sick? can anybody help me? please....

From the contents of your Mail, it is apparent that you are quite perturbed by the attitude of the Bank officials. It is not surprising, as it is the same predicament being faced by a good number of Card Holders.

The Recovery Officials of the Banks are also a worried lot, as they are unable to meet their recovery targets. They opt for the easier way out by trying to act tough with those people whom they feel they can arm twist to make payments.

In your case, it would be prudent to meet the concerned Bank Officials and sort out the delayed payment issues with them. You may be able to get your payments rescheduled, which may to a great extent relieve you of your mental tensions and gradually sort out your present problems.
