Legal Question in Administrative Law in Virginia

I was an employee at a company, and had an emergency that had came up where I had to go out of town for a week. I was approved for seven days off and when it was time for me to come back I needed one more day to return to work. Prior to coming back to work, my manager told the human recources office that I had turned my store keys in and resigned/quit. Can a pursue and take this matter to court?
