Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia

Virginia Department of Forestry caused my property damage

My Grandfather had over 1,600 in property damage caused by a backburn,(not the wild fire itself)and the VA Dep. of Forestry is refusing to pay. They started a backburn at my grandfathers property and then left it unattended.I have been told they should pay for the damage,is that true? If so where do I begin? Thanks for all your help and any information would be greatly appreaciated.

Contact the Department of Forestry and inform them of your claim. If the State of Virginia requires the filing of a claim against the state, before you can file a lawsuit, such as is required in California, you'd better do that. The deadlines are often short so look into it immediately.Or, immediately seek the advice of a Virginia attorney.
