Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Locating father for son's change of name

My son is 9 years old. His father has not been involved since before he was born. I am trying to change his last name to my husband's. I have filed the petition, but I cannot locate the father to serve him reasonable notice. What are some other options, and is there any way that I can proceed without his permission due to lack of involvement?

Re: Locating father for son's change of name

You could probably obtain the court's permission to serve the notice by way of a local newspaper publication.(It's called constructive notice.)
