Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

relinquishment of parental rights

can i relenquish my parental rights and Is that going to spare me from providing financial support to the lady and the child? How can i get the joint custody and in that case do i still pay the young lady money every month? can i let a single person (pregnent girl's mom) adopt the child from me so that will remove me from the picture and from paying the child support?

Re: relinquishment of parental rights

1) You cannot relinquish parental rights for the purpose of avoiding child support. 2)You cannot obtain joint custody for purposes of reducing/eliminating child support--you need to establish that it is in the best interest of child for you to have custody; you cannot have a person adopt your child (assuming that you get custody) for purposes of avoiding child support.
