Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

debe collection

I found a lawyer earlier this yr,for my son. His father paid half the fee, and I said I would try to pay the other half. Unfortunately, my job is all commission, and I did not make any money to pay it. I did pay a little on it. Now I am being sued by lawyer, the lawyer hired, to collect the debt. I did not sign anything.am I responsible for debt?

Re: debe collection

If you made an oral promise to the lawyer to pay one half of his fee, then, yes, you're legally responsible for paying it.

I must say, nevertheless, that I would look askance at any lawyer who would assign such a debt for collection when he has been presumably notified of the circumstancers which have apparently prevented you from following through on your promise.
