Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Problems with my contractor

I entered into a contract for a renovation a year ago. At that point I was told 6 months. 1 year later the project is still under way. 4 months ago I was told ''4 more weeks''. little progess has been made since. Now I have the sub contractors calling my home asking if they were to bill me and not the contractor as they have yet to be paid. What can I do? I keep being lied to by my contractor and am becoming very concerned that these subs will put leans against my home. Please help!

Re: Problems with my contractor

This situation requires advice and the retainer of counsel. the two issues to be negotiated are the completion of your project with a replacement contractor, terminating the present contractor and claiming back from him the monies paid but apparently misdirected. The owner of a residence has a defense of payment to any subcontractor mechanics liens.
