Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

3rd degree theft

I was recently recieved a citation for 3rd degree theft. I have never been in any trouble before therefore I hold no criminal charges. (I had recieved a speeding ticket like 3 years back and paid to have it deferred). I am wondering what my options are-I've researched and found that there is A compromise that can be made and there is a deferral option. Am I eligbile for either of these? What should I expect for a sentence from the Judge? Thanks-

Re: 3rd degree theft

The options you name are possibilities but every case outcome is very fact specific. It depends on what you allegedly stole, from whom and under what circumstances. Only your lawyer can really tell you if they are valid options in your case. If you do not have a lawyer you should hire one right away.

Most first time offenders go through a diversionary program, such as El Cid, ending in dismissal. Compromise is another possibility and also leads to dismissal, but certain stores will NOT go this route. As Mr. White states, an attorney can best guide you through this issue.
