Charges for damages that were repaired

What do I do if I was charged for repairs that were created by the plumber and believe I shouldn't have to pay? I had a main water line repaired and in the process my underground lawn sprinkler system was damaged. The plumber had to come back three times to repair the broken pipes and has charged me for the repairs.

You should write him a letter indicating that you will not pay for repairing the damage he caused. He will likely answer that he did not cause the damage but it was the result of "old pipes" or some such. You may wish to get another plumber's opinion as to this before refusing further payment. However, if it clearly was the first plumber's fault, you should not pay the bill. Depending on the amount, his remedy will be to sue you in small claims court.
