Legal Question in Criminal Law in Wisconsin

Child molestation/ statute of limitations

In regard to all of the pedophile charges arising in the Catholic church lately-It makes me question the statue of limitations on these cases. I was molested when I was young, by my mothers boyfriend. My brother was also molested. This went on for about 6 years. I have always remembered it. I spoke with an attorney about 10 years ago about trying to charge the guy who did it. The lawyer said the statute of limitations had run out, that it was too late. Though, I also feel as if the attorney wasn't ready to take on a well respected millionaire who has put forth money into the community for children's art programs and what have you. Well, when I was a child, how was I supposed to know anything about the law and the statute of limitations? And now that I'm an adult and am able to research and gain knowledge about what it was that happened to me, I can't go after the pig who committed these crimes and completely messed up my life?!?! But now, these other people can go after the priests/church? I'm not sure I understand this process. And, I would like to know if there is or is not anything I can do.

I thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

Re: Child molestation/ statute of limitations

First of all I am very sorry tohear about the terrible experience you have suffered. I do not know what effort the attorney you consulted with put forth, but I would be willing to conduct whatever amount of legal research is necessary in order to answer your question. Then, if it turns out that you are still able to take legal action and elect to do so, I would offer to provide legal services at that time as well. I would require modest compensation for the time required to do the research. If you would like to discuss this matter, please call me at 314-727-2822. Thank you. P.S. In many cases the statute of limitations is tolled (stopped) during the minority of the person injured.
