I live in the state of WIsconsin. I filed for a legal seperation & would like to buy a house but my spouse has a 16,000 judgement from child support from a previous relationship. I want to know if I buy a house will the judgemnt come back against by home

It depends.

The Judgment of Legal Separation will indicate if the parties are financially separated and how. There should be a Separation Agreement that was drafted and attached to the Judgment that covers all this. You need to review those documents to know. I suggest that you contact a local attorney and ask for a free consultation. They may be able to give you better advise if you take with you the documents I have discussed.

Otherwise after one year you can file to convert the legal separation to a divorce. Then there would be no question about doing so.
