child support modification

Please tell me if I should defend myself in a child support modification hearing I have for Feb. 4. I really cannot afford a lawyer. I have faithfuly paid my child support, 136 dollars a month since the divorce in 1995 for my 2 children. I also pay for their blue cross insurance which is 137 dollars a month. I bring home only 880 dollars per month. Their mother does not work. She gets a SS check for my two children and one she had after our marriage and also recieves widow's benifits under the social securtiy survivor's plan. Her last husband that past away in 1998 left her 2 new vehicles a home and a business while my family barely gets by. I have a wife and stepdaughter who is on the dean's list in college. We have no savings and barely pay our bills. I am afraid if I do not have a lwyer to represent me I will have to pay more. Another thing she does not even let me see the children. Each time we have went to pick them up she starts a big fuss and we have to leave without the children. Please help. I have already turned the answer in to her lawyer with all our financial records.

Yes. You need an attorney to represent you in this matter. If you cannot afford one, you need to call Legal Services Corp. or your county Bar Association or the Alabama State Bar office and tell them you can't afford and attorney and they will see if you qualify for a no cost attorney.
