Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Difficult Divorce Question, please help

I am an American citizen living in Germany working as a defense contractor. My wife wants a divorce. The last state I lived in was Alabama. That was in 1997. My wife has been an Alabama resident all her life but also has not lived there since 1997. I have two children who both have never been to the states yet but both carry American passports and have consular reports of birth abroad. Do I have sufficient venue to file the divorce in Alabama or do I even need to file it there? In addition, my wife wants joint legal and physical custody and she she is asking for no child support nor alimony. No child support because the children will be with me 3-4 days every week and the remainder with her. No alimony because she is remarrying as soon as the divorce is final. Thanks for your help. I want to just get the paperwork filed and completed, so that I may try to get on with my life with children.

You can file in Ala. There are some special rules for military personnel that could allow you to file elsewhere. If you and your wife have reached an agreement, then Ala is fine in which to file. You should speak with an attorney. You can call me at 1-800-297-1703 if you wish. good luck.
