Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Alabama

does landlord have to tell tenants about murder

My roomate and I just moved into a new apartment and

found out from other tenants that there have been

multiple murders on the property.. we asked the

landlord when we moved in if we needed a security

system, etc. and she never said a word about any of

this.. should she have been required to tell us about

the murders? We feel it is a threat to our safety and

that we should have been told upon signing the lease.

Re: does landlord have to tell tenants about murder

You do not give me enough facts to give a very good response. In general, I do not believe that a landlord would be required to inform a prospective tenant of a murder on the property, unless there was a chance of the same people creating further trouble. Again, I do not have enough facts from you about the previous murders to give a more detailed response. You should consult with an attorney in your area.
