Money from a car accident

My daughter is 17 years old and she was involved in a car accident 2 years ago. She is suppose to recieve alot of money. Her grandmother is trying to be the one to sign for the money. how can we prevent this from happening, because grandma wants the money for herself. Can she have access to that money?

A sizeable settlement should be approved by the court and placed in a restricted account for the minor. The adult in charge of this would normally be the parent. Does the grandmother have custody?
