Legal Question in Employment Law in Arkansas

Wrongful termination/discrimination

Last week I was terminated from a position that I held for 12 years. My work record was free of any violations. The reason given for my termination was based on inaccurate information. I lost both my salary and accrued benefits. Six weeks prior to my termination I had notified my employer that I was seeking treatment for alcoholism. I took a two week medical leave. I spent one week in the hospital. I started out patient treatment in the evenings and worked during the day. I believe that my termination was actually due to my illness, however, I have no proof other than the time line. Do I have any legal recourse?

Re: Wrongful termination/discrimination

Possibly. It depends on the reason the employer gave for your termination and the evidence which can be presented in order to prove that reason to be false. It is unlawful under the ADA to terminate an employee because of a problem with alcohol abuse.
