Legal Question in Disability Law in California

My husband accepted a temporary full time position with a hospital. He was told that it would be a three year contract, and so turned an opportunity for a permanent part time position. He was just laid off after being on the job for less than a year due to cuts. The contract stating it was for three years, was verbal. Does he have any recourse?

While verbal contracts are legal and binding, they can be very difficult to prove. Few people have guaranteed employment contracts. Without such a guarantee, employees can generally be laid off at will. Your husband is going to need witnesses who will be willing to testify to the essential terms of the contract for him to have a chance to win such a case. If he believes there is supporting evidence, he will need to have an attorney review the evidence to properly assess his case.
