Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

A friend stole one of my cars and went drunk driving. He hit another car which cost the man $10,000 to fix (which I think might be a lie). He totaled my car. I have the original paper work from the officer that states he stole my car when he was getting arrested. Almost three years later now the man is suing me for the $10,000. I am not reasonable after my car is stolen is what the officer, my insurance, and friends told. Am I wrong? Is this a case I will lose? If so, I'm only 22 still in college with little amount of money what will happen to me financially?

Nothing will happen to you financially. Give the lawsuit to your insurance company (whatever insurance company you had three years ago). Who cares if the victim wins or loses his lawsuit. The insurance company will deal with the claim, that's their job.
