Legal Question in Technology Law in California

Who can tell you what you can & cannot post on you website?

I have a website and I put up information reguarding a high school marching band that my son use to attend and now my daugther attends.

The information I put on the site is information that is sent to me by supporters and students.

There is no links to the high school. There is no information from the schools website that I copy and use. I do use information that is sent home with my student.

The High School has instructed me to take the website down. That I do not have permission to use the Schools name in any of my information or writings. No flyers or dates on my calendar regarding the school are to be posted. They would like me to get everything that is posted on my website approved by the school before it is posted.

Do they have a right to tell me what I can and cannot post?

They do not have the right to tell you to take down or censor your website, period.

If there is something else you aren't telling me you could theoretically be sued if your website uses commercial trademarks, is defamatory, obscene, etc. But under the 1st Amendment they can't censor it. Let me know if you need more help.
