Legal Question in Constitutional Law in California

I live in a house with tenants renting rooms in California. I have installed security cameras inside the home pointing at the entrance doors. Are there any legal implications towards this? Can you provide a reference. .My one problem tenant says "it's an invasion of privacy." These cameras were installed to monitor entry to the home incase of theft or break-in.

Invasion of privacy requires an expectation of privacy. There is no legal expectation of privacy in the exterior of any building, since anyone walking by can see. There is also no legal expectation of privacy in common areas of a residential property that can be accessed by any other resident of the property and their guests. I doubt you will find a specific case on this, because no attorney would be foolish enough to try to argue to a court that there is an expectation of privacy in those areas, and you only get law where someone has been willing to argue both sides to a court.
