Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

auto lease

I wanted to help my sister obtain a

car lease. She asked if i would cosign

for her. She made lease deal with

sales personnel and a member of

their staff drove to my place of work

to sign papers. Car was either picked

up or delivered to her (sister). Low

and behold, she failed to make

payments and obtain insurance. Is

this a third party financial

agreement, for they knew i would

not be driving the vehicle? Good

faith? Truth in Lending? I just want

to get out of this lease without it

costing me a fortune.

Re: auto lease

You are going to be responsible for this debt. You signed the lease and agreed to be financially repsonsible. (That is what a cosignor does.) You will have to pay the lease. You should try to bring it current as quickly as possible. You may need to sue your sister for the amount you have paid.
