Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I move to ca. almost four years ago,and I was laid off,and have been out of work for two years now,and still have child support ,and am wondering how to ease the financal burden.I was also out of work for several months before moving .needless to say the state of Mn. continues to issue checks although I have no income.

How do I rid myself of the balance that the state of Mn. has inccured for me,and reduce the monthly payment? I'm also concerned about social security after retirment?

Thank you

phil

I'm not totally clear, but I gather that the State of MN has been paying your child's custodial parent on your behalf during this time that you do not have sufficient income to pay yourself? If that is the case, you need to repost your question to MN attorneys (assuming the child support order is in MN Court) in the family law practice area. Child Support is not a typical consumer debt, which this forum area is intended to address. You need specific advice from a MN Family Law attorney, and need it immediately as I do not know if you can retroactively modify your child support order. You may be stuck with repaying what the State has advanced on your behalf, but may be eligible to modify what you owe going forward. Contact a MN Family Law attorney immediately.
