Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Protecting your FICO score

How do I stop collection agencies from calling and/or mailing when the legal time limit to pay the debt has passed? Also, is it possible to settle the debts at this late date without them affecting my FICO score?

Re: Protecting your FICO score

You should have an affordable attorney draft a cease and desist letter to immediately remedy the collection calls, and/or file for FDCPA relief in small claims court shortly thereafter. Your FICO scores can be negatively impacted initially, however, they "quickly" recover once you have a "settled as agreed" mark on your credit reports, showing the debt is no longer outstanding period.
