Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

recourses of co-signer when payer defaults on student loans

A few years ago I co-signed 2 student loans for my brother. He dropped out 2 years later and came home. A year later he stopped attending community college and stopped working. In March of 2003 I recieved a notice stating he was in default on the 2 loans. I have been paying ever since and he is running around doing illegal things and not working. What are my recourses since he refuses to work or make any attempt at paying a cent.
