Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

i just separated with my boyfriend, when i still with him, i lended 40k to him, but we didn't sign any agreement or anything, what should i do now to have him pay me back?

Do you have proof that you loaned him the money? For instance, a cancelled check?

Does your ex-boyfriend have the ability to pay you back? Does he have a job?

Have you asked him to repay you?

If he refuses to re-pay, you will need to sue him, obtain a judgment and possibly garnish his wages.
