Legal Question in Family Law in California

Alimony in California

Hello! My husband & I were married for nearly 16 years here in CA - no children. He is a tenured school teacher and we worked together at a dinner theatre which we started together over 12 years ago. I had had no other job than the dinner show, which obviously I cannot do as we are not on the best of terms. With his teaching salary & the show income, it averages about $75K a year. I am not working currently & am asking for $875. a month alimony. Is that a reasonable amount? I think so but he claims that is a 'hardship' for him due to bills. If he refuses to pay, should I get a lawyer? Would it be worth it for me financially what I have to gain vs costs of a lawyer? We are currently just doing the paperwork for the divorce thru We The People and since he filed they will not talk to me. I would be grateful for any advice! Thank you!

Re: Alimony in California

Get yourself an attorney! You own 1/2 of the business and the income from it is yours, additionally he could be ordered to pay your attorney fees if requested by your attorney.
