Legal Question in Family Law in California

Concerned about ex-wife's request for child support

This is a 2nd marriage for myself & my new husband. He pays $540/month to his ex-wife for child support. They have a 5 y/o daughter. If my husband became physically unable to work. Am I responsible to pay for the child support? My salary is also higher than my husband. Does the ex-wife have the ability to request for more child support? I am worried about this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.
