Legal Question in Family Law in California

Dear LawGuru Team,

I need some help. I would like to know if I am supposedly adopted, I want to know if I can legally change my name if I wish and take off my adoptives parents' names and information off my birth certificate. I am now an adult and over 18 years of age, but I no longer want people to have a connection through me especailly with legal documents. I am not in California right now but that is my hometown state. I also would like to know how do I start and go about doing all this. I really appreicaite you taking the time to read all this and thank you in advance for all your assistance.

You need to seek legal counsel in the state where you are, not a state you were raised in that you call your home state. You would have to comply with that state's laws for seeking a name change.
