Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Hanging a sign outside competitor's business

Would it be illegal for me to hang a sign nearby a competitor's business? The sign would not be on the building (since it is their property) but on a nearby post or other object which I could hang it on. It's purpose is to attract the attenion of the competitor's supplier indicating I am interested in purchasing from them, along with my contact info.

It might or might nor be a violation of the criminal or civil law. But it sounds nutty. Why don't you call or write them?
