Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

A car next to mine in my apartment complex caught on fire and destroyed my car. My car is covered by my insurance but my personal property in the car is not. Is the woman liable at all. I had photography equipment in the trunk worth a few thousand and can not work until it's replaced.

Thanks

Yes. You should make a claim against the other owner's auto insurance. Both of your homeowners'/renters' insurance policies might also provide coverage for your equipment.

Yes, but only if the fire (or at least the extent of the fire) was her fault. If it resulted from failure to maintain the car then she's probably on the hook. But if someone else set the fire then he's the one liable for your loss.

If you have renters insurance, put in a claim. If not, I guess you have learned a lesson about not insuring the tools of your trade.
