Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

Change of Ownership

I am trying to change ownership of an insurance policy from my father(deceased) to myself(insured). His estate has gone through probate and is closed. It has been closed for 3yrs now. The insurance company wants a letter of administration dated within one year. I don't know what that is. Please help!

Mr. Cohen gave you good advice. If it is insurance for a house or a car, and the title has changed, just cancel the insurance and take out a new policy in your name.

Re: Change of Ownership

There is an order of final distribution made when the estate closes. That is the document that transfers title to various assets to various beneficiaries. Why not just submit the Order and that should satisfy the insurer, assuming, of course, that you are the beneficiary. And the order does not have to be specific, a residual gift to you will pass title to all unspecified property in the estate.
