patents /ownership of an idea

my question is can you patent an idea/concept or do you

have to have an actual physical working model of your invention?

I have a concepts for a several things. can i patent the concepts?

First you need to do patentability analysis. Then if you see these ideas are patentable. Then a provisional application can be filed...and within one year of that need to come up with a prototype in order to file a full application which must be filed within one year of filing the provisional application.
