Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Hi, my boss prohibits us from talking about wages. One time, I asked a new employee how much she got started at. My boss somehow found out and gave me a verbal warning that I should NOT ask/ talk about the other worker's wage. Furthermore, I am not even not allowed to talk about my own wage among coworkers. Is this legal? Does the law provide any protection over this matter?

Thank you.

Tell your boss to read California Labor Code section 232 , which expressly prohibits employers from preventing employees from disclosing the amount of their wages and from disciplining an employee for disclosing their wages to another person.
