Legal Question in Employment Law in California

happiness in the work place

I was recently let go from a new position because I was ''not the happy warm fuzzy person'' that they were looking for. Can this happen? I know about the probation period but I was told that it was not my job performance and they were pleased with how fast I caught on so I know it was not my performance.

Unless you have a written contract or are the subject of a collective bargaining agreement, California is generally an "at will" employment state. This means that an employer can pretty much terminate you for any reason so long as it is not prohibited by state for federal law (i.e. termination based on age, race, gender, etc.).

Do you have any reason to believe that they fired you for an illegal reason?
