Legal Question in Employment Law in California

pay cuts

I work for an inventory Service. We are paid an hourly wage, however they have decided that we are all getting pay cuts because they have decided to pay us 50%based on how much we count per hour and the other 50% is based on what we count as a crew. I have been there 8 years, and most people on the crew have been there less then two months. They have cut my pay 2.69 determined by who knows..Noone knows how they figure it out and why only certain jobs are used to determine the pay. We also received a letter a few months back telling us that we would no longer have to worry about out production being used to determine our hourly wage.Is this legal?? There is soo...much more they are doing that doesnt seem right..Please give me your opinion..thankyou very much

Re: pay cuts

An employer CAN calculate your wage dependent upon the number of tasks or procedures performed, but must provide you with that calculation each pay period. If they do not provide you that calculation, then they are in violation. Where it gets difficult for the employer is when you are working more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week. They must pay you overtime based upon either your weekly earnings divided by the hours worked = hourly rate * 1.5, or at a rate equivalent to 1.5 times the "piece" rate, if there is a written agreement between the employer and employee. If you have any questions on this or other pay procedures, please feel free to contact me.
