Legal Question in Employment Law in California

trying to get something put on someone's personal and business credit report

I did work as a consultant in California, with a business based in Florida. they signed a contract, and then never paid me the 20,000 they owed me, but continued to promise month after month. My credit is really bad now because of this. I want to put a lein on the person's personal credit, as well as business. How do I go about this? Can I just hire a collection agency, since I had a contract? or do I have to do formal lein?

You would have to bring suit and obtain a judgment against this business before you can engage in collection.
