Legal Question in Employment Law in California

worked for 6 weeks without pay

My son has worked for a large clothing store for 6 weeks without receiving a

pay check. After he did not receive his check at 4 weeks (the second pay

period) I contacted human resources in New York and was told he was not in

their system and they could not help me and to have his manager turn in his

paperwork. My son was told it was done on week 5 of working and he should

receive his paycheck the following pay period - week 6. Week 6 pay period

came and no check! Corporate was called but the employee contacted was

not in the office and my son was told they would call on Monday. This just

does not seem right and my son told me it had happend to a number of other

employees. This is a BIG national chain. Just doesn't seem right.

Re: worked for 6 weeks without pay

Contact the Labor board and file a complaint. It appears your son's situation is ridiculous at best and violates California labor laws.

Have your son contact the California EDD (Labor Board) and make a wage claim. That should get his employer's attention.
