Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Ok, So my girlfriend of a month had dumped her ex boyfriend and he said for her to leave because he had nowhere to go they had just signed a new lease. So she talked to the manager of the apartment building, had her sign a paper and informed her that she was off. Next few days she learned that she was not off the lease from her ex boyfriend and said to call the manager, the manager had not called her to inform her of this. This is all in colorado. She wants to get off the lease and her ex is still trying to have her help pay the bills. What can she do?
