Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

Do I have a case for defamation when the retail clerk at the local market says out loud for all to hear, your card is no good , then, says sir your (debit) card is a fraud ! But when I checked at the near ATM the receipt read, card is invalid, not a fraud like the clerk stated . I was humiliated and made to feel like a criminal.

Thank you , jaaybird

It's a lousy case. Retail clerks have no money. Also you have to prove damages - you have to prove that other people heard the statement, believed it, think poorly of you as a result, and this resulted in actual monetary losses to you.
