Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

My friend and I were going to go to tahoe, yet i needed to move during the trip. So he offered to hold my stuff at his place. I had a small bag packed for tahoe, and 2 large luggages with all my clothes and everything else that I own. He told me he was going to put everything not for tahoe in his apartment when he got home.

Yet he tells me the next morning, "the car was broken into and all your stuff is gone". He tells me, he never took his stuff out of his car, and he went to a club in the heart of the projects of San Francisco, CA.

He did not even claim me in the police report that i never saw, or the insurance claim.

And he told me that only my stuff got stolen.

Does he owe me money?

Can I sue him?

You can sue him and collect if you can show to a judge that he failed as a bailee to exercise reasonable care in the safe keeping of your goods.
