Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

self defense and property damage

Without any former provocation, a friend jumped on my back in our dorm lounge. He started to choke me out until I could see stars from the oxygen deprivation. I acted by flipping him over my shoulder. He was not injured but our dorm's ping pong table was broken. Now the dorm is requiring me to chip in for a new one. Am I obligated to since I acted under self defense?

Re: self defense and property damage

In a nutshell, you are probably responsible only if you acted unreasonably. It sounds like you did not act unreasonably. However, I suspect the other guy (or other witnesses) may not tell the exact same story. Good luck.
