Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

In the state of California, is there a standard deduction in rent or some sort of compensation that has to made to tenants by the landlord when they have no running water? The water main has broke(it leaks when the water main is turned on) and the landlord does turn water on a few times a day so we can shower and fill water containers, but it is inconvenient to say the least. Thank you.

If Landlord won't fix it within a reasonable amount of time after your Request to Repair to him in writing, you may employ the Repair and Deduct method in which you hire someone to fix it and then deduct that amount from the month's rent payment but in order to do this properly, you must comply with certain particular requirements. You should contact an attorney before employing this method.

Based on your zipcode, you are in Los Angeles' rent control zone. Have you called the Department of Housing?
