Legal Question in Tax Law in California
We have been asked to participate in a 4-day event, by selling meals to rally participants and would like to donate profits to local youth organizations. Our problem arises with start-up funds to purchase the food. Locals businesses have offered to contribute to the cause, however, our concern is that they would like receipts for their donation and we are not a non-profit group. We are just individuals trying to help local youth. How do we avoid tax issues and do this right?

Your larger problem is the health department, unless you have a license to sell prepared food.
