Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

hit & run

My 17 yr old son is being accused of hit & run on the 10 fwy. He was driving at 1 a.m. and says that he got sleepy and swerved but did not hit anyone. When he noticed a car following him, he thought it was road rage and got scared so he just kept going. 2 days later the CHP came to my apt. at 7 a.m. to ask me why i fled the scene. I told them my son drives that car (it's registered in my name). I gave them my insurance information and the investigating officer called me the next day. Now CHP wants my son to go to their office and bring the car so he can give a written statement. what should i do? do i need a lawyer?
