Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

Red light camera ticket

Last month I visited a friend for a couple days in Fremont, CA. I drove from Los Angeles, 400 miles away. I arrived in Fremont just past midnite after driving for 8 hrs. straight. As I approached a large intersection, I moved into the right lane to prepare to turn right. I saw that the light was red and was braking to come to a stop. Several feet before hitting the first line of the crosswalk, all of a sudden a flash of light came from behind me. Very startled, instead of coming to a stop I continued the right turn and it was then I realized that it was red light cameras as they continued to flash me. I have never experienced being flashed by a red light camera before. I was a visitor to Fremont and not very familiar with the area, and even more so at night. My driving record of 15 continuous years in CA is immaculate...no moving violations, DUIs, accidents (caused by me), etc. I would like to fight this ticket, and I would like to hear from any attorneys out there who would be interested in assisting me. I have not yet asked for an extension on my 5/30/06 citation due date.

This reply is late because you question first appeared on May 31, 2006. You should get the Nolo Press book "How to Fight Your Traffic Ticket" and read about cameras and tickets. The alternative is to hire an attorney to represent you in this matter.
