Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

Hit & Run-Prop Dmg, Financial Responsib, Unsafe Turn

I p/u my new car (no insurance yet) and on the way home, I turned the corner too fast, hit the curb, my tire blew and my car went across the street & I hit a parked car almost head on. I was scared and left the scene. After I talked with my mom, I turned myself in. I got insurance the next day & I paid for the damage to the other car.

I was charged with violations 200002(a)-VC Hit & Run-Prop Dmg, 16028(a)-VC Financial Responsiblity & 22107-VC Unsafe Turn/Ln Change.

I know that I am guilty, do I plead guilty? I do not want to lie and say I wasn't guilty, but I'd like to minimize my liability and the any blemishes on my driving record. I've never had any tickets or accidents.

Re: Hit & Run-Prop Dmg, Financial Responsib, Unsafe Turn

First contact an attorney to represent you. Do not plead guilty. Since no one was injured and the damages to the other car were paid you may be able to negotiate a civil compromise and have the court dismiss the hit and run charge. As for the insurance if the new car was a replacement for an insured car or an additional car your insurance should provide coverage for up to 30 days. You must however pay the premium for the new car for that time.
