Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Rent in probate

I have been living with my Grandma for many years. Durning that time, I paid many of the bills, grocries and for incidentals that came up. The lawyer said to keep the house looking lived in with up keep and everything, then stated that it is the law to charge rent. I know that at least 4 of the 6 siblings think this is crazy. I guess the question is, do I have to pay rent by law and where can I find the law that states this as per the lawyer I am acting as the caretaker.

Re: Rent in probate

I do not know of any CA law that REQUIRES someone to pay rent...especially when living with a relative. I would ask the attorney to specify what law, since he is the one claiming that there is one.
