Use of photo on the web

I used a photo on my website that Getty photo service maintains it belongs to them. I have no way of proving that it is their photo as nothing on the photo indicates it is Getty's. They are charging me a heft sum and I do not know if I have any recourse.

Getty is extremely vigilant in defending its copyrighted images - I have represented a few clients who have received similar notices as yours.

Getty uses varying license fee schemes, depending upon how long you've used the image and in what manner. I have been successful in the past negotiating with them in obtaining lower settlement amounts. If you'd like to discuss with me, feel free to contact my office.
