Legal Question in Criminal Law in District of Columbia

under the three strikes law

If a person was sentenced to serve 12 years in a federal prison but has already served 6, what is the possibility of a lawyer being able to reduce the person's sentence to at least one year? Is that a possible at all under the three strikes law or would the person have to continue to serve out their 12 years? I need to know if it is worth the money to seek legal services. Please advise since the three strikes law does not provide any alternatives. Thanks!

Re: under the three strikes law

Very unlikely, since as there is now no parole in the federal system, most inmates currently appear to serve around 85 to 90% of their sentences imposed which in the case of a person sentenced to 12 years would be somewhere between 10.2 to 10.8 months(with credit for so-called "good time").
