Legal Question in Family Law in District of Columbia

My husband received a settlement from an auto accident that occured during our first year of marriage. He has opened a separate account and I believe that is where he has deposited the money. During his recovery period I was the sole provider for our family. Am I entitled to any of the settlement money since we are still married and live together?

Yes, possibly so, under DC law such funds could be reasonably construed as subject to your claim of marital property under the facts outlined in your question.

I agree with the previous answer. During the divorce matter, you can learn the specifics of the settlement agreement and the details of the separate account.
